Rotor Profiles

ABE has established a strong track record in designing rotor profiles for a wide range of applications, including screw compressors, screw pumps, and flow meters. As a reult of a variety of earlier development projects, experiences have been achieved around profiles for multiphase (twin-screw) and vacuum pumps.
These experiences have contributed to ABE’s comprehensive understanding of rotor profile design across diverse industries and applications.
Throughout the profile design process, careful consideration is given to the chosen production method, whether it be milling or grinding, to ensure the highest level of manufacturability.

Compressor Profiles
Based on the long experience from SRM, ABE has now developed its own rotor profiles for screw compressors. The profiles will be optimized for maximum performance at the actual operating conditions, which applies both to the base profile and the clearance distribution.
During the design of the profiles, the port design can be included. Furthermore, axial/radial forces and the torque transfer between the rotors are also calculated, the latter to reduce the risk of rattling.

Screw Pump Profiles
ABE has leveraged its extensive expertise gained from IMO Pump to create its own set of rotor profiles specifically designed for three-screw pumps. These profiles have been carefully optimized to deliver exceptional performance under actual operating conditions, encompassing both the base profile and the clearance distribution.
Additionally, calculations are performed to determine the axial/radial forces and torque transfer between the rotors. The latter calculation is particularly crucial as it helps mitigate the risk of rattling, which is becoming increasingly significant with the emergence of alternative fluids.

Flow Meter Profiles
ABE has recently introduced their self-devloped rotor profiles for flow meters. These profiles are meticulously designed to maximize performance under real operating conditions, aiming to minimize pressure drop and achieve the highest levels of accuracy. The optimization process focuses on reducing pressure losses while ensuring exceptional precision in measurement.

Multiphase Pump Profiles (Twin Screw)
The choice of rotor profiles for multiphase pumps (twin-screw) is primarily driven by the desired pump performance characteristics and the type of fluid being pumped. The rotor profiles are crucial in determining the pump’s efficiency, flow rate, and ability to handle different types of fluids.
Another critical factor in choosing the rotor profile is the production technology that is either currently available or intended for use. To address specific requirements in real-world scenarios, ABE offers a range of different profiles, including Quimby, envelope, cycloid, or combinations of profiles. This diverse selection ensures that the best-suited solution can be tailored to individual cases.

Vacuum Pump Profiles
Designing vacuum pump rotors requires a thorough understanding of the pump’s operating principles, performance requirements, and rotor dynamics. The use of variable leads in vacuum pump rotors allows for improved efficiency, control of compression ratio, adaptability to different gases, and potential noise reduction. These factors contribute to better pump performance and enhance the pump’s suitability for a wide range of applications.
